Used STACK for years before switching to EQ Bank Card. Same prepaid concept but EQ has 0% FX + cash back. Decision was easy.
Overview
The STACK Prepaid Mastercard is one of Canada's longest-running prepaid card products. STACK Financial built its business around the simple proposition: no-fee prepaid spending for users who don't want credit cards or traditional banking complexity.
You load funds from any Canadian bank account, then spend with the Mastercard anywhere globally. $0 annual fee, $0 monthly fee, $0 transaction fee, free Interac e-Transfers. The app provides spending categorization and budget tracking.
No rewards (no cash back, no points). 2.5% FX markup on international purchases (worse than EQ Bank Card or KOHO Visa). The product hasn't evolved as aggressively as EQ Bank Card or Wealthsimple Cash — feels behind competitors in 2026.

Editor's verdict
Outdated by EQ Bank Card and Wealthsimple Cash.
STACK was innovative at launch but has been surpassed by newer fintechs. EQ Bank Card, KOHO Visa, and Wealthsimple Cash Card all offer 0% FX + cash back at the same $0 fee. STACK's only advantages today are brand familiarity for existing users. For new users, choose any of the three competitors instead.

Outdated. App is meh. No rewards. 2.5% FX hurts on travel. Cancelled and got Wealthsimple Cash Card.
