Have held since 2018. Dedicated concierge has saved my life dozens of times. Got us into a Michelin 3-star in Paris with 48 hour notice during their busiest week. Worth every dollar for the access.
Overview
The Amex Centurion — universally called the "Black Card" — is Canada's most exclusive credit card and cannot be applied for. Amex sends invitations to existing Platinum cardholders who meet undisclosed criteria. Industry consensus: $250,000+ annual Amex spend, $1M+ income, multi-year Platinum tenure.
The fee structure is brutal: $7,000+ initiation fee (one-time) + $7,000+ annual fee. Some Canadian Centurions report higher tiers at $10,000+/year for international privileges. Members report the fees are negotiable for ultra-high-spend customers.
What you get: everything Platinum has, plus more. Centurion Lounge access. Unlimited Priority Pass. Top-tier elite status at Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador, Hilton Diamond, Avis President's Club. Dedicated personal concierge (your own assigned concierge with mobile + email + WhatsApp access). $300 Saks Fifth Avenue credit. $200 international airline credits. Personalized travel arrangements via Centurion Travel Service.
The Centurion's real value is access to experiences not available with money alone: exclusive event invitations, restaurant reservations at fully-booked spots, sold-out Broadway/concert tickets, even rumors of private island arrangements. For UHNW clients who already spend $500K+/year via Platinum, the Centurion is the natural next step.
For Canada's ~3,000 estimated Centurion holders, the card is a status symbol and convenience tool. Not a rewards card. Earn rates are roughly equal to Platinum. Don't apply seeking ROI — you'll be disappointed by the math.
Welcome bonus

Editor's verdict
Canada's ultimate status card — and you can't apply for it.
The Centurion is the apex of Canadian credit cards but offers little practical advantage over the Amex Platinum for 99.99% of users. You buy access and status, not rewards. If you're reading this review trying to decide whether to apply, the math says go with Amex Platinum and save $13,000+/year. Centurion exists for clients to whom $7,000/year is a rounding error.

Got invited after 4 years of $400k+/year Plat spend. Honestly the benefits over Platinum are marginal. Status play. I keep it because of the brand association.
Cancelled after 2 years. Marriott Ambassador status was nice but I don't travel enough to use it. Saks credit is meh in Canada. Net negative for my use case.
