Overview

The BMO eclipse Visa Infinite is BMO's answer to the Amex Cobalt — 5x rewards on Canada's highest-spend categories with universal Visa acceptance. The card combines dining + groceries + gas + transit into a single 5x earn bucket, capped at $3,000/month in eligible spend.

Beyond category earn, you get a one-time +10% bonus on every redemption, $50 annual lifestyle credit (statement credit on streaming services), and standard Visa Infinite benefits. BMO Rewards convert at 1:1 to BMO travel bookings via the BMO Rewards portal.

Trade-off vs Cobalt: BMO Rewards are less flexible than Amex Membership Rewards (no transfer to Aeroplan etc), but you get universal acceptance and don't need a backup card.

Switched from Cobalt because tired of carrying backup. eclipse gets me 5x everywhere I go. Trade some flexibility but my wallet is finally one card.

Solid card. Hit the $3,000/month cap regularly which is annoying but at that point I'm already winning. $50 streaming credit is the sneaky perk.
